On Monday 8th March 2010 German music manager Siggi Loch received a very special honour: for his services to Swedish culture in Germany, Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf named him Knight 1st Class of the Order of the Nordstjärneorden. The order was presented to him by the Swedish ambassador, Ruth Jacoby, in her residence in Berlin.

“Siegfried Loch has done more for Swedish jazz in the world than anyone else. It is a great honour for me today to be able to present him with this much deserved order,” said ambassador Jacoby.

Sir John Dankworth, CBE - 1927 - 2010

We were saddened to hear of the death of Sir John Dankworth on Saturday 6th February - as well as being a national treasure for the arts in general as well as just for jazz, he reminded us of the enduring power of the artform by playing well into his '80s and despite a prolonged period of illness, even performing from a wheelchair at the London Jazz Festival in November.

Dan Berglund back with brand new project

Dan Berglund's Tonbruket.JPG

Universally acclaimed for his work with the groundbreaking and trail-blazing Esbjorn Svensson Trio, double bassist Dan Berglund is back with his new project Tonbruket. A mesmerising mixture of jazz-inspired ideas blended with the heavy rock and prog sounds that influenced his early pre-e.s.t. playing, Tonbruket marks a bold new direction for Berglund while still holding onto the startling creativity and ingenuity that made e.s.t.'s sound so enduring.

Bringing Music Back To The Pheasantry

The Pheasantry on the Kings Rd is a building with an amazing history and a rich musical heritage. Initially this was a royal household sat amongst rolling fields full of pheasants which were hunted for sport, hence the title. Over the last 100 years it has become famous for its artistic connections. During the 1930’s to 1950’s the first floor was the home of a ballet school, in the swinging 60’s the Pheasantry became a bohemian place to hang out. Eric Clapton lived within its walls, Germaine Greer wrote The Female Eunuch, and the Beatles had one of their album sleeves photographed.
